In developing the 20th Century Women project and in the creation of
this e-journal, I have been blessed with help from many, some of whom
I’d like to thank in this space. I am deeply grateful to my long-time
friend and colleague, Fran Gazze Nimeck, who gave so generously of her
time and talent as a graphic designer; Anne Kastel, for her wise
counsel as she guided me through the early stages of building a
website; Andrea Boykowycz, who transcribed many interviews, and
provided willing help in many matters both large and small; S. Calvin
Walden, Esq., who very kindly researched and helped resolve important
copyright issues; the administration and staff of a large nursing home
where I met a number of women whose stories will appear here – their
names I will not list in order to provide another layer of privacy for
those women who wished to conceal their true identities; Mary Yost, my
agent, who never stopped believing in the project and in the importance
of the stories; Chaplin Judith Mason, who directed my attention to a
most unusual woman; and to my friend, Joan Little, for encouragement
and belief; and to my husband, Dan, for endless patience and the quiet
moral support that is priceless. —JANICE MARUCA
